Location: Creative Connections (2nd Floor Main Street Gallery), 56 Main St, Ashburnham, MA
Throughout history each culture has made books with available materials. Humans have used clay, bark, leather, and papyrus to preserve their laws, their stories, their music and their poetry. In contemporary culture, book art has become a popular way to create original hand-made books for individual expression. This new method of art making is inspired by the form and function of books. In this workshop participants will learn to make three different book structures using their own creative designs: a miniature book using small scraps of paper, a Japanese stab binding book, and a hand-sewn book using Coptic stitching with a collaged cover. If you’ve taken Mrs. Hathaway's book making class before, these book forms are different and will build on the skills learned in the previous class (previous class enrollment is not a prerequisite). All materials will be provided.
