This exhibit, "Conversations", is a group of works by Randy LeSage, seeking to convey 'conversations' through art. Art is a form of communication with others and with oneself in the making of it. In many ways, the artist hopes to open channels of conversation.
For myself, much of the art I feel strongest about comes as a 'surprise'. A discovery through the process that may arise in a quiet fashion or in a jolt of awareness. In exhibiting the work I hope to share this 'surprise'. And so, like a good conversation, possibly a new awareness is discovered by others within this exchange.
Additionally, some of the imagery within the show reflects upon a direct exchange of figures depicted in conversation or in a struggle to communicate. Other works may not be as direct. Though I hope they may lead to a contemplation of their expressive intent.
There are paintings in various mediums as well as handmade prints. The very exchange of working within one medium into another is a dialogue itself. For myself, I find working in one medium often bolsters the need to interpret imagery through a separate medium. This interplay allows me to have an internal conversation where I may interpret subject matter through different viewpoints.
Some of the artworks here also include figures reading books. Exhibiting within a library setting seems natural. Though the ever-changing world's means of communication continues to evolve.
How do we converse literally and figuratively as we go on?
