Iphigenia Gossios Burg – ‘Raw Expressions: A Visual Poetry in Mixed Media’

Artist Statement:
“This series is an expression of passion, movement and balance through the use of color, shape, and texture. I typically start a project without a specific destination in mind. I follow my instincts and allow the work to evolve. When I’m finally happy with it, the piece is done. I’m inspired by, and draw visual cues from shapes, patterns, and colors in the environment around me. It could be a manufactured object such as a piece of cloth, or something found in nature, like the effect of wind blowing through trees. Such things ignite my imagination and give my work direction. It’s a process of discovery which often leads me to places I hadn’t imagined. I’m experimenting to see how different colors, shapes, and textures work together to create balance. In my process I’ll sometimes use grid ideas, or collaging of my old paintings or torn magazine paper. In some cases I use wire or other objects to bring a 3D form of line drawing into the piece. Occasionally a piece might not work to my liking and there is a need to stop and leave it unfinished. Eventually new and fresh inspiration hits and the work gets completed.”
