ARTIST STATEMENT
"I
am excited to be showing my work at the Creative Connections Gallery!
This exhibit includes figurative and abstract paintings I have completed
over the past six years. I am also including older collage and mixed
media work as well as a sampling of my travel journals and sketchbooks.
The paintings were all done in water-soluble oils, a medium new to me
after years of working with watercolors, oils, and acrylics. Some of the
landscapes were painted en plein air while for others I used
photographs as a reference. The two self-portraits in the show were
painted 56 years apart. In the first, I am 23 years old and in the other I am 79. I have changed! For both paintings, I used the same old gold leaf mirror. It has never changed. My work is in the Past, Present, and Future."

A note from your hosts, gallerists Mark and Angie Setevdemio:
"This show is very special to us. Jim is a long time friend and also a former teacher. We met in one of Jim's painting classes at Framingham State in the early 1990's and were married a few years later. Jim has been a mentor and an inspiration for our own work all these years."
